THANK YOU for choosing Sojourner House for your donation
Our supporters changed the lives of nearly 3,000 individuals like Andrea who accessed our programs and services in 2017. Without these services many of our clients would be homeless and living in fear of their abuser. The number of clients who receive our support and are seeking our services is higher than ever, and your support is needed now to keep this work going.
My children and I came to Sojourner House in August 2012. We were on the streets, alone, with no family to support us, no money, or a home to live in. I thought my world had ended. I was broken, full of fear and despair, and unsure of our future - the pain and sadness I felt seeing my children suffer was indescribable.

Through Sojourner House, we were able to stay in emergency housing, where we received support and affection, and my children received services to help them cope with their trauma. Little by little, the advocates at Sojourner House taught me how to love myself, value who I was, and most importantly, gave me hope for the future.
In November of that same year, we were blessed to get into an apartment through Sojourner House's transitional housing program. I knelt down and cried when I got the news - the joy of having our own home was unlike anything I had ever felt before. Sojourner House gave us a new life; a life of peace and security.
Now, I am a happy, secure, and independent woman with a permanent home and a job to support myself and my children. My kids and I would not be where we are right now had it not been for Sojourner House. This is an organization that saves lives. I have lived first-hand what it is like to lose hope, but have been blessed to find people who give it back. I am forever grateful to Sojourner House for giving us the chance to rebuild our lives free of abuse and pain, and I know the hundreds of victims who receive your services feel the same way I do. Thank you.
Your support will help fund advocacy, housing, and other support services for those who have experienced abuse. Your gift will also support an array of prevention and education services offered in the communities we serve. These types of donations also help us address gaps in services that other types of funding don't cover, which helps us provide more comprehensive services to all victims of domestic and sexual violence violence.
If you'd like to meet with a member of our administrative team to discuss your donation, please don't hesitate to call (401) 861-6191. Thank you.

Other Ways to Show Your Support
+ Volunteer together
Sojourner House can accommodate groups of volunteers interested in helping with specific events or special projects such as yard work or building maintenance. We welcome corporate groups, classes, faith groups, as well as school organizations and clubs with appropriate advance notice. Groups that can provide their own materials (cleaning supplies, tools, etc.) are especially helpful!
For more information, please e-mail email@example.com. To help us decide if your group is a good fit for our current needs, please be sure to include:
- The size of your group
- The number of hours you are looking to volunteer (e.g. half a day, full day, a few hours, etc.)
- The date you were looking to volunteer and whether this date is flexible.
- The type of project you have in mind
- Whether there are any restrictions to the tasks your group can do.
+ Host a donation drive
We rely almost entirely on donations to keep our Safe House and our Transitional Housing apartments furnished, stocked, and comfortable. Consider hosting a donation drive at your workplace, school, or faith community to collect some of these much-needed items. We are always in need of:
- Gift cards to places like Stop & Shop, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, etc. enable our clients to purchase items we may not be able to provide to them, and gives them the freedom and autonomy to make decisions around what items they use for their family.
- Cleaning supplies. With all of our different residential programs, we in constant need of cleaning supplies for general maintenence as well as for deep cleanings when clients move in and out of our programs.
- Bed Linens. As clients move in and out of our shelter and apartments, we are often in need for NEW twin-sized sheets, blankets, and pillows.
Please note: due to the bed bug epidemic at shelters across the state, we are unable to accept any used bedding.
- Towels. Often clients arrive to our shelter with nothing more than a garbage bag containing clothes and other necessities. There are few comforts that make someone feel home than a set of fresh (new) towels.
Please note: for sanitary reasons, we are unable to accept any used towels.
- RIPTIKS. Many of our clients rely on public transportation to get around. This includes those in our residential programs in Northern Rhode Island who need to access our Drop-In Center in Providence on a regular basis.
+ Join an event committee
We are always looking for dynamic individuals to help us plan some of our most anticipated fundraising events, such as our Masquerade Ball or Spring Campaign! This is a great opportunity for folks who are looking to get their feet wet with event planning, add skills to their resume and/or to volunteer with an organization that makes an incredible impact on families and individuals in Rhode Island.
